Minister of Health, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton officially re-opened the Kitson Town Health Centre, which was closed during the implementation of a renovation and expansion project. The Compassionate Care Programme and the Telemedicine Pilot Project was also launched at the facility.
The renovation and expansion project was funded by the National Health Fund (NHF), at a cost of $69 million. It also included the expansion of services, which includes curative services being offered five days per week instead of three. In addition, Dental Health Services is being offered for the first time and mental health services once per month.
Speaking at the official re-opening of the facility on October 10, Dr. Christopher Tufton, said the policy of the Government is to work with communities for the provision of up-to-date health facilities so that health-related issues can be prevented.
The Kitson Town Health Centre sees just over 1,000 persons each month, and, recently, the NHF refurbished the pharmacy to offer expanded pharmacy services with a full-time pharmacist, a pharmacy technician and a curative nurse.
