Lady Allen Installed as Patron for the Friends of the BHC

Her Excellency, the Most Honourable Lady Patricia Allen was installed as Patron for the Friends of the Bustamante Hospital for Children (FBHC) on Wednesday, April 25, 2018.

During the installation ceremony, Mr. Anothony Wood, Chief Executive Officer, Bustamante Hospital for Children noted that the FBHC and the hospital share its 55th Anniversary this year.

"This year we celebrate a bond that spans 55 years. For more than half a century the Friends have stood by our side and have been a tower of strength," he said.

He also noted that Lady Allen has been visiting the hospital on a weekly basis to read to the children in the Learning and Activities Centre.

"Lady Allen, your invaluable contribution to this facility has no doubt added a personal touch that most certainly has a very positive and uplifting impact on the children who spend days or even weeks away from their families as they recover from their illnesses," he added.

For Her part, Lady Allen said was she pleased to offer her patronage and support for such an outstanding institution.

"The list of accomplishments the Friends of the Bustamante Hospital for Children are many and includes the construction of physical spaces such as the five-bed Intensive Care Unit, the establishment of ward three to accommodate a burns unit," she said.

The FBHC was established in 1963 and is a charitable, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing assistance to the patients and staff at the Bustamante Hospital for Children. They also played an integral role in the establishment of the hospital by assisting with the transportation of the patients from the Paediatric Ward that was located at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) to the Hospital site.
