Aug 22, 2018  |  Kingston

Minister of Health, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton (left), and Executive Chairman of the Guardsman Group, Mr. Kenneth Benjamin (2nd right), shake hands to symbolise the formal handover of a solar energy system to the Bustamante Hospital for Children during a ceremony at the hospital. Looking on are (L-R) Mr. Kwame Hall, Chairman, Vice Presidents of Operations; Managing Director of the Guardsman Group, Mr. Vinay Walia and Mrs. Karlene Taylor McKenzie, Acting Chief Executive Officer, Bustamante Hospital for Children.

The Bustamante Hospital for Children is expected to save $28 million in energy costs over the next 20 years, through the installation of a solar energy system.

Donated by the Guardsman Group through proceeds from the proceeds of its 2017 Guardsman Games, the system will power the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The system, which has already been installed, was officially handed over during a ceremony at the hospital on August 20, 2018.

Minister of Health, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton, thanked Executive Chairman of the Guardsman Group, Mr. Kenneth Benjamin, for the generous donation, noting that “he has ensured that the ICU is benefiting from this solar system which will create savings for us and, by extension, help us to carry out our functions in the environment of limited resources”.

This green energy system is a pilot project facilitated by Future Energy Corporation.
