The Bustamante Hosptial for Children (BHC)partnered with a medical team from Nemours/Alfred I duPont Hospital for Children in Delaware, United States and the Kingston Public Hospital to conduct the first two liver transplants in the history of Jamaica. The surgeries were done on September 26, 2018, and September 28, 2018. The patients who are 13 and 18 months old are in stable condition. Both children have biliary atresia, a disease that if untreated can lead to liver failure. They received the liver donations from their father and uncle, respectively.
