The St. Catherine Health Health Services is responsible for the operation of 26 health centres and two hospitals, the Spanish Town Hospital and the Linstead Hospital
Geographically the largest parish within the South East Regional Health Authority, St. Catherine presents both unique challenges and opportunities to the public health services. It is the fastest growing parish with a population of 486,819 (STATIN 2004), estimated to be over 600,000 in 2006.
St. Cat-herine Health Services has a network of twenty six (26) Health Centres and eight (8) satellite clinics spread across four (4) health zones. The parish is served by two (2) hospitals, Spanish Town a Type B Hospital and Linstead a Type C Hospital. It has the distinction of having the five (5) top urban areas of population growth – Portmore, Old Harbour, Linstead, Ewarton and Spanish Town (Census 2001) and Portmore being the largest dormitory community in the English speaking Caribbean.
