The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) and the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) received a total of 100 wheelchairs from the Rotary Club of St. Andrew on Thursday, September 26, 2019.
Of the total amount, each entity received 50 wheelchairs for the benefit of the patients who access services at public health sectors.
The symbolic handing over of the wheelchairs took place at Operation Friendship in Kingston.
In his address, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton, Minister of Health and Wellness, said that this kind gesture made by the Rotary Club of St. Andrew is a demonstration of the importance of volunteerism and giving back. Minister Tufton also urged persons to volunteer their time through the Compassionate Care Programme and to support the Adopt a Clinic Initiative. He added that "you will be surprised to see how the small things that you do for others such as combing a patient's hair on the wards will make yo feel accomplished".
Acting Chief Executive Officer, KPH and the Victoria Jubilee Hospital, Kathleen Cooper Brown, also expressed her gratitude for the donated wheelchairs at the event.
