The Minister of Health, Dr. Christopher Tufton toured the Victoria Jubilee Hospital on Wednesday, October 19, 2016. Dr. Tufton explained that the tour was aimed at getting a first-hand view of the operations at that facility. He visited the Neonatal Care Unit, the Labour, Surgical and Gynaecology Wards.

"As it relates to Victoria Jubilee, I am satisfied that the staff here are committed to what they do based on the feedback that I have had, certainly from patients that have interacted with me,” he said “They go, very often, beyond the call of duty to achieve the excellent reputation and success they have had in terms of mortality rate, in terms of treating particular conditions…"

Dr. Tufton who was speaking with reporters following the tour, said the Ministry of Health will continue to work with the hospital to see how it can strengthen what already exists as well as improve the conditions to ensure quality service.

He noted that VJH is a facility that is “one of a kind in the region” and is the largest the region with over 250 health care staff and between 8,000 and 10,000 deliveries annually.
