US$70,000 Laser Donated to KPH Ophthalmology Department

The Latter-day Saints Charities has donated a Selecta Duet SLT and YAG Ophthalmic Laser to the Ophthalmology Department at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH). The laser valued at US$70,000, will aid in the hospital’s ability to treat patients diagnosed with Glaucoma.

During a ceremony to symbolically hand over the equipment on August 9, 2017, Mr. Errol Greene, chief executive officer, Kingston Public and Victoria Jubilee Hospitals said the equipment will go a long way in bringing the hospital up to speed with technology.

Similarly, Head of the Ophthalmology Department Dr. Angela Mattis expressed her appreciation for the donation to the eye clinic, adding that it will go a far way in assisting the department, which sees approximately 15 new glaucoma patients on a monthly basis, to better manage glaucoma patients.

Dr. Jesse Hunsaker, Consultant Ophthalmologist of the Latter-day Saints said the donation of the laser is expected to significantly improve the management eye care at KPH.
