The South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) is commemorating Vaccination Week in the Americas with a number of activities including workshops to sensitise staff and residents across St. Thomas, St. Catherine and Kingston and St. Andrew about the importance of being vaccinated against a wide variety of vaccine preventable diseases.
In addition, several visits are being made to police stations, schools and Golden Ages Homes to promote access to immunization.
The Kingston and St. Andrew Health Services kicked off its week-long celebration on Monday, April 23, 2018 with a launch at the Kingston and St. Andrew Health Department.
Vaccination Week in the Americas (VWA) is an annual initiative that has been observed on April 21 to 28 since 2003 by the Directing Council of the Pan-American Health Organization.
This year, the Region of the Americas will celebrate its 16th Vaccination Week in the Americas campaign under the theme “Strengthen your defense! #GetVax #VaccinesWorks”. This theme is in honour of the 2018 World Cup.
In addition, other activities for the week will include educational sessions as well as football competitions and counselling.
