KINGSTON, Jamaica. 26 April 2023. This week, in honor of cervical cancer
awareness month, the South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) will
provide free Pap smear screening in the parishes of Kingston and St. Andrew,
and St. Catherine.
Additionally, the health teams will do free breast cancer screenings and
administer the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to females between the ages
of 9 and 26 and males between the ages of 9 and 14.
Screening is the best way to identify cancer in its earliest stages, often before it
causes any symptoms. Without screening, clinicians' capacity to identify cancer
and, consequently, effectively treat it, is significantly reduced. Cervical cancer is
the third most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related
deaths among Jamaican women. SERHA is also encouraging the public to get
screened for cervical cancer at any of the locations below:
